Small JoysAbstracts

After creating several monochromatic series and works, Steffa Reis felt a strong desire to reintroduce vibrant coloration to her art, and with it, the need to express joyous moments, bursts of inspiration and renewed optimism in life.

As of 1990, she began to work on various sheets of paper she found by chance – pages from magazines, newspapers, journals and the like. Employing often oil pastel, but also soft pastels and more, she created mainly abstract works. In some, she built up dense surfaces that cover underlying images, while in others, she created airy, thinly painted compositions, leaving part of the support bare. Concurrently, she painted in a similar style in oil, on small-format canvases.
